Religious Studies as an academic discipline was established at the Faculty of Arts of Palacký University in Olomouc in 2016 and is provided by the teachers of the Department of Sociology, Andragogy and Cultural Anthropology. At present, this field of study is available at the Bachelor's (B.A.), Master's (M.A.) and Doctoral (Ph.D.) levels.
Religious studies in Olomouc deals mainly with cognitive research on religion, the study of atheism and irreligion and contemporary forms of religiosity.
A number of research activities are carried out in the cognitive laboratory CO-LAB, which is equipped with special technologies such as eye-tracking (measurement of eye movement activity), MOCAP (measurement of body movement activity), virtual reality combined with eye-tracking (measurement of eye acuity in a virtual environment), EEG (measurement of brain activity).
